NEW SECOND STOREY ADDITION AND RENOVATION

The client brief for this project was to add a first story extension to this existing brick veneer residence, which included: 3 bedrooms with built-in robes, lounge/ living area, bathroom, powder room, and linen cupboard. The other vision the client had was to update the existing front door and entry foyer and provide a more inviting and light

-filled entry space, with a high vaulted ceiling and commercial framed entry glazing.

There was also the need to give more protection from the weather to people at the front door, by incorporating a feature entry roof construction and supporting powder

-coated steel lattice frame and posts. to enhance their lifestyle, they also wanted a new alfresco area, which would be able to extend the family living space to the outside, which included installing a wide opening glazed bifold door.

A small balcony was also incorporated into the first-floor extension, providing an area to sit and enjoy the view. the existing brickwork would have a cement render applied and paint finish to revitalize the tired façade of the existing house. lightweight cladding with 10mm express joints would be used to clad the exterior walls of the first-floor extension, this cladding would have a paint finish applied.

NEW ALFRESCO AREA AND FEATURE ENTRY, BREWER DRIVE, WODONGA

Two flyover roofs were added to the existing outdoor north-facing aspect of this residence, which is overlooking the pool. These have been designed to protect the internal living spaces from the harsh summer sun while letting in a good amount of natural light and warmth during winter; they also provided a covered area that can be utilised all year round.

The same theme was also adopted for the front elevation, which faces west, to minimize the impact of the afternoon sun to the main bedroom and lounge room, without restricting the view to the west. This also provided for additional covered outdoor areas for these rooms for interaction with the environment during the warmer months.

The opportunity was also taken to enhance the main entry point of the dwelling, by adding a detailed suspended timber frame between the two flyover roof structures. A simple but detailed connecting bracketing solution was incorporated into the design to allow for ease of production and installation, while still maintaining structural integrity.

VISUALISATION

I was engaged by the builder to provide presentation images for the proposed development. Since this was going to be built in a significant landscape overlay area, the building surveyor had requested that these images be prepared, showing how the development would affect the surrounding environment.
